Longtime Brighton area resident Shirley J. Morris passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at her home, with her family members by her side.
She was born in Johnstown, Colorado on December 10, 1926, to Jacob and Mary Weber. Shirley was the youngest of 11 children and grew up on the family farm southwest of Johnstown, and graduated from Johnstown High School.
Her marriage to Oliver R. Morris, from Milliken, produced two sons, Larry and Steven.
Shirley spent her life being the consummate farm wife, raising two boys and helping out on the family farm southeast of Brighton. She was a true farm wife, girl Friday, go-fer girl, and could operate a tractor and a wheat truck with the best of them. She was also a fabulous cook. There were always plenty of pies, cakes, cookies and other goodies. The door was always open for lunch, dinner or whatever.
There was a beautiful flower garden, yard and fruit trees which she somehow found the time to care for. Most of all, she had a great love for her family and friends, and wasn’t shy about speaking her mind. People always knew where they stood with Shirley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; ten siblings; husband, Oliver; and son, Steven.
She is survived by her son, Larry of Denver; and numerous nieces and nephews scattered across the country.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to the Henderson Community Church, PO Box
