Sherri Gutierrez-Rojo Obituary

Celebrating the life of SHERRI ANN GUTIERREZ-ROJO, daughter, sister, wife, mother, sister-in-law

aunt and grandmother.

Sherri was born in Denver Colorado on November 3, 1964, to John and Angelina Gutierrez. She attended Ranum High school briefly, before moving to Fort Lupton, Colorado to care for her elderly grandmother.  Sherri met her future husband James Rojo in high school. They went to prom together and became high school sweethearts.

After they both graduated, they continued dating until they were married on, May 24th, 1985. Sherri was a Dental assistant at the Salud clinic in Fort Lupton. They had their first son Joshua Paul on September 2, 1987. After the birth of their second son, Zachary James on June 27, 1990, Sherri gave up her career to focus on her family. She was very involved with her boys, she was a coach's mom, room mother, Sherri never missed a school or sporting event. Which she loved tremendously.

Sherri became her uncle Generos full time caregiver, which was a huge commitment while continuing to raise a growing family. It was during this time she felt the calling to become an advocate for senior citizens. It was a passion she carried for the rest of her life.

Her love for animals started when she was a child growing up in Denver, as an adult she has had too many dogs to count, birds, fish, bunnies. You name it, Sherri had them. Recently it was her granddaughter’s Guinea pigs.

Sherri was an amazing cook, baker and craft person, her cooking and baking were legendary. Sherri could always be found in her kitchen perfecting many different recipes. Sherri made the most incredible cakes. She cooked and baked for holidays, parties, charities, any chance she could. She also had an amazing eye for all types of crafts, she really enjoyed crocheting which she learned from her grandmother and mother.

Sherri was a Christian and was a member of various church and Bible groups. Her love for the Lord was evident in her everyday life. A family tradition was to read the entire Bible cover to cover every year, which they have done for over 30 years! Even in the hospital her Bible was open to a favorite scripture, Sherri and Jim read their scriptures daily, even in her hospital room.

Sherri loved being a mother, but the birth of her granddaughter McKinley was truly one of the highlights of her life. She absolutely loved being a grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her “sweet Kin” teaching her to cook, reading to her, doing projects together. Education was extremely important to Sherri, and she loved working with McKinley to help her with her reading and anything she needed.

Tragically Sherri and Jim lost Joshua in an accident while he was a freshman at Colorado State University in Fort Collins on April 30, 2006. Sherri went home peacefully on the afternoon of February 2nd, 2023, she was surrounded by her loved ones.

Sherri was proceeded in death by her grandmother Emeteria Sanchez, her uncles Paul and Genero Sanchez, her son Joshua, and parents John and Angelina Gutierrez.

She is survived by James her husband of 37 years, son Zachary and granddaughter McKinley.
