Norman Coren Obituary

Norman Coren was born on April 10, 1940, to Harry Coren and Mollie Cramer Coren in Philadelphia, PA.  He grew up on the West Philadelphia, living above his parents’ ladies’ and children’s wear store.  He lived and worked there, learning retail sales at his mother’s knee, until he decided to leave home and go out on his own. He graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1958, and later took some courses at a local college.

Norman worked various jobs throughout his life, primarily in retail sales, promotions, and clothing production. In later years he sold cars.  After moving to Brighton, he did promotional events for King Soopers for 12 years.  Norman loved working, especially when it meant interacting with people.

In September of 1972, Norman met and married Shari Anderson when they both worked for World Wide Pictures, the motion picture arm of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.  For one year they lived and worked in the border town of Douglas, AZ.  He worked in production at Oxford Industries, a factory that made shirts.  The following year marked both the birth of their daughter, Coleen, as well as their move to southern California.  During that time their daughter Courtney was born.

In the summer of 1986, the family moved to south Florida to care for his aging mother who suffered from dementia.  Three years later, both Norman and Shari accepted job offers back in California, where they lived for a total of 28 years. They remained in California until 2006 when they both retired and moved to Colorado to be near family.

Norman’s outgoing and generous personality entertained those around him and made him many friends wherever he went.  He was intensely proud of his family, especially his eight grandchildren, with the youngest, two-year-old Abby, holding a special place in his heart.  Norman was greatly loved and will be heartbreakingly missed by all who knew and loved him.
