Mark Van Horn Obituary

Mark Van Horn was born on July 20, 1951 to Ralph and Betty in Waltham Massachusetts. Mark met his soon to be wife Linda at Kings Family Restaurant where they were both employed. They married on August 7 1971. They later moved to Lincoln, Norfolk and North Platte, Nebraska, while working for Kings, a restaurant they eventually owned, in North Platte.

Mark and family were avid tennis players and instructors best exemplified when the husband-and-wife duo won the Nebraska State Mixed Doubles tournament in 1980. They furthered their experience and enjoyment of tennis by attending the John Newcomb’s Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels Texas.

They eventually moved to Lincoln Nebraska where Mark joined the Nebraska State Patrol after the restaurant business and began what became an outstanding decorated service career of 24 years. Mark was also a certified DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) for the Nebraska State Patrol. Mark was a first mover of the NSP DRE program and played a foundational role in the program.

Mark and Linda eventually settled in Chadron Nebraska in the year 2000.
He retired at the age of 59 and continued his work as a child passenger safety instructor for the remainder of his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Van Horn and his parents Ralph and Betty. He is survived by two sons, Chad and Trent Van Horn, brother Keith, granddaughters, Ashlyn, Madison, and Lily Van Horn as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
