Leo John Coffey passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2024 in Brighton, Colorado. He was born in Denver, Colorado on February 26, 1960 as the middle child of John Jay and Iva Jean (Mitchell) Coffey.
Leo spent most of his life in Brighton, CO. He worked as a mechanic and owned his own company, Bear Truck Repair. Leo always made sure family and friends' vehicles were running, regardless of the circumstances. His garage was more than a shop. It was a gathering place for great conversations and fun times with friends and family. He also co-owned the bar, Coffey’s Corner, in Barr Lake for several years, hosting large parties after chariot races and for special occasions. Leo was a talented musician and loved playing drums with his band.
He had many hobbies and talents, but most of all he loved hunting, fishing, and camping with friends and family. He instilled this love of the outdoors in his children and grandchildren, who called him Papa. Papa loved telling stories around a campfire to his granddaughters and anyone who would listen. He made friends wherever he went and was very much loved by his family and community.
Leo is survived by the mother of his children, Elizabeth (Millett) Coffey; his children Laura (Brandon) Thomas, Jennifer (Brian) Winchel, and Matthew (Jessica) Coffey; his five granddaughters Alicia, Emily, and Hailey Coffey and Morrigan and Michaela Winchel; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who he loved like family. He is preceded in death by both his parents, his sister Shirley Jean Skaggs, and his brother David John Coffey.
The family asks that you join them to celebrate Leo’s life at a memorial luncheon Monday, March 25, 2024 anytime between 12pm-2pm at the Alli Event Center in Brighton, CO.
