Larry Werth Obituary

Larry Dean Werth was received unto heaven in the early morning of August 16, 2022, surrounded by family. He was 76 years old. Born on December 28, 1945, in Denver, CO to Nicodemus and Theresa Werth, he was the youngest of eight siblings including his twin brother John who passed at birth.  Larry attended school at North High School and then joined the Navy in 1965 where he served during the Vietnam War.

He married the love of his life, Mary Werth, after a courtship of only 30 days in a Las Vegas wedding chapel on March 31, 1972.  Although some might say the odds were against them, by uniting two of his children and two of hers, all within a year of each other in age, their love proved to be everlasting. Two and a half years into their marriage they were blessed with the birth of Alexander Dean Duane Werth on January 12, 1974. Alex was the nucleus that made the family feel as one.

Larry was a pipefitter by trade and a proud member of Local Pipefitters Union 208 for more than 50 years.  He began as an apprentice and retired his career as a Project Engineer at Conoco Refinery. He was admired by his coworkers and a friend to all that he crossed paths with.

On May 9, 1990, our families’ lives were shattered by a tragic car accident involving Larry, his oldest son Nick, and youngest son Alex. While all three were severely injured, Alex suffered a life-altering closed head injury requiring around the clock care. Larry made a selfless decision to give up his career to create a home environment that would meet Alex’s needs and provide the ultimate care he knew his son deserved. For 16 years the two of them were inseparable. It was known that Larry would communicate with Alex through a walkie talkie if they weren’t in the same room. His love for Alex was unmatched and unheard of.

His favorite hangout later in life was the car wash he maintained not far from home.  You would find him there each day greeting customers or shooting the breeze with family members who always knew where to find him. He loved to tell stories and make people smile.  Larry also had incredible talent working with wood.  For a time, he and his wife Mary would build and decorate beautiful birdhouses and share them with friends and family. Known as a do-it-yourself guy, he was able to build or fix just about anything, never complaining and always happy to help someone in need. A man of his word and could always be counted on. When he finally found time to relax, it was spent watching a game or reading news on the Denver Broncos. A fan through good and bad, he never wavered. Larry’s greatest joy and pride was his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Werth, his four children, Nick (Candace) Werth, Connie (Todd) Gibson, Mike (Tonya) Moody, and Michelle Snow; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, Melissa (Dale) Kuberski, Jarryd Ramirez, Caitlyn Ramirez, Keara Werth, Aidan Moody, James Carlson, Jacey Carlson, and Jace Kuberski.  He was preceded in death by his beautiful son, Alexander Werth, his parents, Nicodemus and Theresa Werth, his siblings, Catherine (Sonny) DePinto, Alma Jean (Fred) Prince, Lucille (Joe) Richmeier, Donald Lopezi, Alvin Werth and John Werth(twin), and his best friend Matthew Devich.
