Janice Ellen (Simms) Shriver, 80, of Commerce City, passed away on January 15, 2021 in Lafayette, CO. Born November 14, 1940 to Lawrence and Esther Simms of Sterling, CO, Janice grew up on the family ranch on the North Side of the North Sterling Reservoir with her brother Melvin and sister Genevieve.
Janice wed Don Shriver from Kimball, NE on January 31, 1960 at the First Baptist Church in Sterling, CO. They moved to Denver, CO that same year and eventually purchased 15 acres in Commerce City, CO where they built their home. They remained there to this day raising their 3 children.
Janice spent her life raising her children, working as a teacher’s aid at Henderson Elementary school and Nanny to Sarah and Rachel Boim and Michael Lausser, who all affectionately referred to her as “My Jannie”. She was instrumental in the family’s love of horses and travelling to horse shows together. Her passion for horses (and all animals) began at a very young age and upon her death, she still had 2 horses (Grey Eagle & Drifter) that she loved dearly and hoped to ride again someday. She travelled the world with Don yet was always happy to return home to her friends and family. She especially enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, NV; Wendover, NV and Central City, CO to take her chances on the slots and eventually became comfortable with the blackjack table.
Janice is survived by her husband Don; her children Julie (Kenneth) Motley of Hudson, CO; Craig (Susan) Shriver of Sterling CO and Wendy (Sid) Gluckman of Gainesville, FL. Grandchildren: Landon, Ashley (Wyatt), Annika, Brittany and Jennifer (Cody). Great Grandchildren Cullen, Emma, Camden and Nolan as well as her Sister Genevieve (Simms) Ramey.
Janice was best known for giving her time and always caring for others. She never met a stranger and was always available to help in any way she could. Her love for the Lord combined with her faith and strength led her through her life and gave her peace as she entered the gates of heaven.
