Elaine J. (Eilers) Forry

Elaine Jeanette Eilers Forry was born November 11, 1924 to Fred and Anna Eilers of Rockwell, Iowa.

Elaine and family lived in a rural area where children were few and far between! Elaines education began in a country school at the age of 4. The reason for her early education was in order for the school to receive state aid, there had to be an enrollment of at least 10 children to qualify and Elaine was the only child that age to meet their needs. Her family later moved closer to town where she attended and graduated from Rockwell High School. After finishing high school, her next step was Broadlawn Nursing School in Des Moines, Iowa. Throughout her life she was employed at numerous hospitals in Iowa and Arizona.  In later years she changed her career and worked for Westland Water Company as a Purchasing Agent from where she retired.

Elaine met her future husband, Donald in her hometown of Rockwell, Iowa where he operated and co-owned the local newspaper. They were married February 25, 1949 at the Congregational Church in Rockwell, Iowa. After a few years they sold the newspaper and moved back to Plover where Donald was from and continued farming.

Elaine and Donald  had a large farming operation raising thousands of turkeys and hogs. Even with their busy lifestyle, she and her husband found time to serve in many capacities, mainly with church and school.

To this union were born two daughters, Janiece Gallup of Evergreen, CO and Jeanette Smith of Brighton, CO.

Elaine was a member of Chapel Hill Church of the Nazarene where she served in many capacities. Her favorite position besides being a member was being a greeter. Elaine loved people and was a friend to all ages. Along with her husband, they belonged to the Gideons International. She had the opportunity to serve one year at the Gideons International Convention which was another great opportunity to serve. Her utmost desire in her life was serving the Lord and others. She loved the outdoors, animals, family, friends, music and anything baseball (Go Rockies!). The word stranger was not in her vocabulary and her home was open to all visitors.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Donald Forry in April of 2016. She will be laid to rest next to him at the Laurens Community Cemetery in Laurens, Iowa. Preceding her in death were her grandparents, parents, her infant brother and her younger sister Marion Jean Whalen.

Elaine is survived by her daughters Janiece (Steve) Gallup and Jeanette (Lindsey) Smith. She also has 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
