Derrick Diedtrich Obituary

Derrick Paul Diedtrich was born March 11, 1978 in Aberdeen, SD to David and Linda (Mehlhaff) Diedtrich.  At the age of 8 the family moved to Arvada, Colorado and later made their home in Brighton where Derrick attended Brighton High School.  He was active in concert band and Jazz band and loved the Arts and Entertainment displayed in his participation with the drama club.   Derrick later sought out additional education at UNC in Greeley, CO.  His career as an electrician brought him opportunities to display his creativity in a way that only he could.   Derrick was the oldest of three siblings and a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Alena, who was the pride and joy of his life.  He was a kind, gentle, loving soul that sought out adventure on a daily basis and made life fun.   He touched many lives in a way that was sincere and special and was happy to help anyone when needed and gave of himself selflessly.

Derrick was an adventure seeker who loved to go hiking, rock climbing, boating, fishing (especially at the family fishing hole in SD), snowboarding, skateboarding, golfing, 4-wheeling and all the fast action were part of his life.  His hobbies included playing the guitar and drums which led to several friends forming a band and playing at some local venues from time to time.  He enjoyed cooking, gardening, karaoke, participated in a bowling league, and recently found himself getting challenged by his daughter when trying out a little tennis competition.

Derrick is survived by his grandmother, Phonia Diedtrich; his parents, David and Linda Diedtrich; his sister Angela Fuentes (Diedtrich) and children Jericha & Deion;  brother Robert Diedtrich and children Autumn and Hailey (Angela Ortiz-Mother); his precious daughter Alena Diedtrich (Stephanie Gettman-Mother).  Aunt, Susan Czarnowski (Diedtrich) and husband Larry.  Aunt, Kathryn Newman (Mehlhaff) and husband Tim.  Uncles:  Clark and Jerald Mehlhaff.  And Cousins:  Stephen Czarnowski, Jimmy Newman, and Jessica Newman.   He is preceded in death by his grandpa Harvey Diedtrich; grandfather Harvey Mehlhaff, grandmother Miletta Mehlhaff and uncle Lester Mehlhaff.
