On April 1, 2024, the dear Lord called our partner, son, brother, uncle and friend Darrell L Dechant to be with him. Born on April 7, 1958, in Denver, Colorado, Darrell's journey was marked by a passion for the sciences, an unwavering commitment to education and a life enriched by the love of his family and friends.
Survived by his devoted partner, KaMing Tam, his beloved mother, Lorraine Roedel, and siblings Duane Dechant, Beth Larie Roedel and Lynn Nelson, Darrell leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, generosity and compassion. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Gilbert Dechant and Merle Roedel. Darrell's memory will be cherished by his nieces and nephews, Michael, Jamie, Tyler, Robert, Jon and Samantha.
Darrell's educational journey was nothing short of remarkable. His passion for learning began in Brighton, where he graduated from Brighton High School. He was a proud alumnus of Colorado State University where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health/Chemistry, Master of Science in Industrial Sciences/Safety and a PhD in Public Health/Industrial Hygiene. He later earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming. His relentless pursuit of knowledge and his commitment to education were hallmarks of his character.
Professionally, Darrell was known as a distinguished Certified Industrial Hygienist and a respected scientist. He was a prominent expert in the environmental, compliance and regulatory fields. His commitment to bestow his expertise was evident in his role as a professor at multiple universities, where he shared his knowledge and inspired future generations.
When Darrell’s work journey came to a close, he and KaMing retired to Florida, his paradise on Earth.
Friends and family will recall Darrell’s generosity in every act of kindness, and there were many. Darrell's memory will be treasured and kept alive in the stories we share and the laughter that echoes in the hearts of those who knew him.
A scholarship fund will be established in honor of Darrell's passion in higher education.
